Marrs Renovation Team Revitalizes Brick Ranch for First-Time Homebuyer

Marrs Renovation Team Revitalizes Brick Ranch for First-Time Homebuyer A 2022 graduate of the University of Arkansas, Jason Gloeckler — along with the generous support of his parents — recently purchased his first home, a 2,272-square-foot brick Ranch home. Located halfway between his parents’ and brother’s home in Bentonville, Arkansas, Jason’s new property will serve as the go-to site for many future family meetups. “The renovation investment in this home is $165,000,” said Jason’s mother, Michelle Gloeckler. “I’m glad we’re able to help him invest in this home, because Jason has been a good kid, very sensitive, good-hearted and hardworking.” With building partners such as Cornerstone Building Brands, Jenny felt confident the team could transform Jason’s basic, 1990s Ranch into a modern, youthful home. From modern sliding glass doors and a new metal roof to warm, inviting accents such as vinyl cedar shingles, Dave and Jenny relied on Cornerstone Building Brands’ product suite to create the ideal first home for Jason. “The challenge is making something that Jason really likes but is also a good investment for mom,” said contractor and craftsman Dave Marrs, who co-hosts the HGTV show “Fixer to Fabulous” with his wife, interior designer Jenny Marrs. “Balancing the money, they have to spend with what we can actually do can be tricky.” The Challenges: Outdated 1990s Ranch house lacks character and modern function While livable and in working order, the home lacked the personality a 20-something seeks in their home. The exterior brick and roof, which were original to the home, felt basic and dated. Inside, the layout was segmented and maze-like with many odd angles and built-ins reminiscent of the ’90s style. In the backyard, the Marrs found what Jason affectionately coined “The Shed.” An old woodworking shop, the basic structure was sound, but aesthetically, the space needed new doors, siding and an interior facelift to give it a cohesive look. “I’m going for a modern style,” Jason explained. “Outside, I’m hoping to see a refresh, some of the bushes are overgrown. I love the front porch and have a dog that will also enjoy it, but it needs updating.” “I agree that we should save a little budget for the shed. A refresh will up the overall property value,” Jenny said. “We can match the exterior to the house and update the landscaping to create a cool, inviting man cave.” The Solutions: Clean, contemporary aesthetic updates To transform the exterior from just OK to eye-catching curb appeal, the Marrs team started by installing a new metal roof to set the modern tone. The renovation also included updating the front porch design, painting the brick grey and installing fresh, minimal landscaping. To take the interior space from ’90s drab to modern fab, they created an open floor plan and added walnut and moody accents, contemporary fixtures, and engineered hardwood floors. “We wanted this house to feel more modern so that it fit Jason’s personality,” Jenny explained. “Our design plan marries sophistication and masculinity.” Black metal roof complements moody grey painted brick and provides long-term maintenance and utility savings Dave and Jenny selected Fortify Building Solutions™ Slimline® Concealed Fastener Panels in True Black for three reasons. One, a contemporary metal roof aligned with Jason’s minimalist, modern style. Two, for a first-time homebuyer, the durability and longevity of the roof is ideal, as it will ultimately save Jason upkeep money and time. And three, the paint system is cool roof compliant through the Cool Roof Rating Council-1 Program, providing solar reflectance that will help reduce Jason’s monthly utility bill to cool the home when it is hot outside. Slimline Concealed Fastener Panel features Roof applications with a 3:12 minimum slope 16-inch width coverage 29-gauge or 26-gauge steel 20 color options in Signature® 200 paint system 45-year paint warranty Vinyl shingle siding adds visual interest to backyard man cave For “The Shed” project, Jenny chose Mastic® Cedar Discovery® siding by Ply Gem® in Misty Shadow, a deep grey, to replace the dilapidated original siding. The new siding has the look of real wood cedar shingle siding without the upkeep, which was a priority for Jason. He won’t have to make room in his budget for routine staining, painting and replacing. Strong and durable, his new premium vinyl siding resists dents, dings and extreme winds all while retaining its natural beauty and color. “We went with Mastic, because of their product durability and ease of installation,” Dave said. “When our team doesn’t have to allot extra resources toward a difficult installation, it saves us time and money.” Mastic Cedar Discovery Siding features Dozens of colors to complement any design style Resists rotting, cracking and peeling and never needs painting, caulking or patching Crafted of natural materials, the siding is safe, sustainable and recyclable Meets ASTM D3679 performance standards for impact resistance, weatherability, product thickness and performance in extreme conditions Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty from Ply Gem “The deep grey color we chose for the siding paired seamlessly with the house,” Jenny said. “Even the corners and J-moulding matched the siding, which gave us that clean, consistent look we were after.” As with the main house, the Marrs replaced the asphalt shingle roofing on the shed with black Slimline Conceal Fastener Panels. The sleek lines of the metal roof provide an eye-catching contrast to the texture of the vinyl shingle siding. Sliding glass doors add natural light and modern appeal Inovo® Sliding Doors by Simonton Windows & Doors were a great choice for the primary bedroom. The two-panel doors seamlessly connect the bedroom with the beautiful backyard, making it easy to let the dog out for bathroom breaks late in the evening or first thing in the morning. Simonton Inovo Sliding Door features A variety of colors, hardware, glass, grilles and screens to fit any design aesthetic Premium vinyl is durable, thermal efficient and resistant to weather, insects and decay The AAMA Gold Certification signifies best-in-class durability, weather resistance and energy efficiency ENERGY STAR® certified upgrade options available Comprehensive Lifetime Limited Warranty covering the vinyl, hardware, and glass The Reveal: Modern, earthy Ranch gets rave reviews “There are so many things to look at. It’s amazing. You nailed it!” Michelle exclaimed. “It totally exceeded my expectations.” From the front curb, Jason and Michelle marveled at the paint color, warm cedar posts and metal roof — whose sleek, clean finish thoughtfully contrasted the texture of the brick exterior. Inside, they oohed and awed at the black cabinetry, concrete tile, engineered oak flooring and modern lighting. Out back, Jason grinned while taking in the updates to “The Shed,” already dreaming about his upcoming football tailgates, gym workouts and poker nights that will take place in the remodeled structure. “I love the metal roof,” Jason noted. “Dave and Jenny hit the nail on the head, finding the right balance to make it flow and make it still masculine enough to where it was a good spot for me to start out my career and life in.” “Jenny and I love being a part of challenging projects like this one. We took a traditional Ranch-style house and made it completely modern, which can be a hard task,” Dave said. “We hope this is a home Jason enjoys for many years to come.” Tune into ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ for more renovations featuring the Cornerstone Building Brands family of brands Dave and Jenny Marrs featured the Gloeckler home in the sixth season of their HGTV show “Fixer to Fabulous.” Watch the episode “First Home Gets a Modern Makeover” to see how it came together. From Basic Beige to Sophisticated Charcoal Grey: HGTV Stars Dave and Jenny Marrs Transform a Tornado - Ravaged Home

From Basic Beige to Sophisticated Charcoal Grey: HGTV Stars Dave and Jenny Marrs Transform a Tornado - Ravaged Home After tornadoes blew through Bentonville, Arkansas, Barb and Roger Ludwig were left with significant damage to their 1990s home. A massive tree crashed into their home, taking down a third of its structure and forcing them to move out of the house they called home for 32 years. “The biggest frustration has been getting contractors to work with us,” Barb explained. “Storm damage is a unique situation, because you don’t know what’s behind the walls and it could get very big.” “We just love this neighborhood and wanted to stay,” Roger said. “When we got the call that Dave and Jenny Marrs were going to take on our home, we were beside ourselves.” With committed building partners such as Cornerstone Building Brands, Dave and Jenny felt confident the team had the resources and firepower to repair the damage and restore the Ludwigs’ home. From energy-efficient windows and new, premium vinyl siding to all the finishing touches, Dave and Jenny relied on Cornerstone Building Brands’ product suite to elevate the home’s curb appeal. “For the last 30 years, this home has been their safe space,” said contractor and craftsman Dave Marrs, who co-hosts the HGTV show “Fixer to Fabulous” with his wife, designer Jenny Marrs. “After the tornado, that changed. When they come back, it will be something new, and we get to be a part of it.” “These types of renovation projects mean so much to us,” Jenny added. “To be able to step in — amidst a huge setback — to help a sweet couple breathe life back into their storm-ravaged home is a beautiful part of our job. We are grateful to have partners like Cornerstone Building Brands, who are up for the challenge and supply products that will help the refreshed home stand the test of time.” The Challenges: Tree damage presents unknowns “The foundation around the front door seems to be crumbling,” Dave noted. “And, there’s cracking in the brick that demonstrates that everything in the home has shifted over due to the tree incident.” When the team first toured the property, much regarding the foundation and structural needs appeared unknown. During demolition and the early stages of the job, the team knew they would face many surprises. Additionally, the Marrs team knew they had to set aside a significant portion of the $210,000 budget to address all things exterior, including windows, siding, soffit, fascia, gutters, doors, lighting and landscaping. Inside the home, the Ludwigs requested new flooring, paint and lighting throughout, as well as a remodeled kitchen and primary suite. “The Ludwigs have been displaced for about five months now,” Jenny said. “This house is going to take several months, but we’re going to work as quickly as we can for them.” After addressing the structural concerns caused by the fallen tree, the team stabilized the foundation, framed out the right third of the home, replaced the roof and reworked the interior systems, such as plumbing and HVAC, on that side of the home before addressing the exterior look and feel. When they were ready to move to the exterior, they installed durable vinyl siding in a charcoal grey color called Deep Cavern and painted the brick accents to match. “Barb and Roger lived in the house a long time, so they gave us valuable functional direction,” Jenny explained. “Not only do we want to rework the home to suit their routine, but we also want all the materials to be low maintenance and last as long as they live in this home. As we age, the last thing we want to deal with is home upkeep and repair headaches.” Modern twist on classic siding adds visual intrigue to the exterior “Barb wants a dark exterior, so we’re going to do a combination of materials to make it pop,” Jenny said. “We’re including three different elements: brick, Board + Batten vinyl siding, and cedar shake vinyl siding. We’ll paint the brick to match the siding and add white trim and a natural wood front door to add contrast.” To achieve a cohesive yet visually intriguing look, Jenny integrated 7-inch Mastic® Board + Batten and Mastic Shake and Shingle vinyl siding. The team tapped into the Ply Gem® Portfolio of Brands for Mastic vinyl soffit and Ply Gem fascia, J-channel and starter strip — all in White — to cleanly tie together the exterior elements. Both come with a V.I.P. Limited Lifetime Warranty that provides peace of mind and will never need to be repainted. Mastic Board + Batten Siding features Premium .048" nominal thickness makes the panels exceptionally durable against impacts Advanced locking system and nail hem allows the panels to grip together for easy installation and remain tight under pressure to ensure the siding stays put in challenging weather conditions Authentic woodgrain appearance Large range of colors spanning classic lights to premium darks Shake and Shingle Siding features Available in Hand-Split Shake, Double 7" Shingle, Triple 5" Shingle and Half-Round Detailed cedar texture with a deep shadow line for a wood-like appearance Exclusive, continuous snap-in locking system spans the entire length of the panel, providing up to twice as much support as tab-type systems Wide variety of colors ranging from standard light colors to premium dark hues For both types of vinyl siding, Jenny selected Deep Cavern, a dark grey hue, and felt confident it could stand up to intense sunlight because it’s a Mastic brand SolarDefense Reflective Technology™ color. SolarDefense protects against fading with a top layer that disperses heat and a bottom layer that stands up to heat, preventing distortion. It also includes a cooling compound that scatters and reflects light away. “When we did the initial walk-through, Barb mentioned wanting a dark exterior,” Dave said. “With Mastic, we trust this deep, dark grey will remain vibrant for years to come. The Mastic brand has upped the ante on vinyl siding innovation with fade-resistance technology such as SolarDefense.” Easy-to-use windows illuminate the interior Dave and Jenny selected 5500 Casement Windows by Simonton® Windows & Doors for the new and replacement windows at the Ludwig home. The Simonton windows are easy to open and clean, making them ideal for Barb and Roger, who desired minimal maintenance and ease of use. In the primary suite, the team customized the windows with privacy glass that has a textured pattern to maximize privacy while allowing ample natural light into the room. “We chose Simonton windows, because they’re fully customizable, which works great when you’re designing for a client with unique tastes,” Jenny said. “Barb loves the natural light that pours in through her large, existing kitchen windows. So, for the primary suite, we installed the maximum size windows the space would allow.” Simonton 5500 Casement Windows features Frame and sash designs range from traditional to contemporary The strong, weathertight unit has unmatched durability, longevity and performance Multipoint locking system tightly secures the window with one handle Customizable glass options meet ENERGY STAR® guidelines Selection of glass upgrade options, including triple-pane, sound and security, double-strength, safety, privacy and tinted Comes standard with a full interior extruded frame fiberglass screen “I never thought we were going to get to this point where we’re moving home,” Barb exclaimed. “Just look at it! Unbelievable! I love that color on the exterior. It’s absolutely beautiful.” From the moment the Ludwigs pulled up to the curb, the couple beamed at their family home makeover. The exterior updates made a massive first impression on the duo. They could not stop complimenting the windows, colors, lighting and landscape. “I love the color and the way it looks on the brick. I love those lights. And the landscaping! The windows are beautiful and the front door color is gorgeous,” Barb and Roger exclaimed. “It brings us into the 21st century.” Inside, Barb and Roger raved about the engineered hardwood flooring, refreshed kitchen and light, warm feel throughout. The primary suite — which was previously annihilated by the tree — was re-created better than ever with an expansive bedroom, walk-in shower, elongated tub and his-and-her vanities and closets. “I can’t talk. I just don’t want to ugly cry,” Barb said. “It’s peaceful and everything. The idea that we had a tree come down and destroy everything, and it’s been brought back so much better. This is more than I could imagine.” “We’re just thankful to see Jenny and Dave come in,” Roger said through tears. “They personalized it for us. They really listened to what we enjoy doing, and they just built it right into this house.” Dave and Jenny Marrs featured the Ludwig home in the sixth season of their HGTV show “Fixer to Fabulous.” Watch the episode “Transforming a Tornado Ravaged Home” to see how it came together. How to Mix Materials on Your Home Exterior- 3 Tips from HGTV Stars Dave & Jenny Marrs

It’s not every day you get the chance to mix it up, just because. It’s even rarer that the result is both practical and personalized. Just like mixing in accent colors to your home’s main body color accentuates your unique, personal style, so does mixing materials on your home exteriors. Blending vinyl siding, manufactured stone and thin brick veneer is a distinctive but timeless look, appreciated not only by homeowners but also by potential buyers. About 70% of homeowners think that a home’s design is improved by mixing materials, according to a recent survey from the New Home Trends Institute. Better still, the average return on investment for homes that have replaced a portion of vinyl siding with manufactured stone veneer is over 150%. So what are you waiting for? The biggest hurdle to achieving a cohesive exterior is material harmony. Dave and Jenny Marrs, the build and design duo behind HGTV’s “Fixer to Fabulous,” shared three tips to bring materials together for the ultimate curb appeal. 1. Keep it simple When it comes to mixing materials, less really is more. To start, always use the rule of three. Once a fourth material is introduced, your exterior could end up looking like a jumbled hodgepodge. The next challenge is picking out different materials that go well together. “Choosing materials that stick to a common theme, such as color or style, will set you on the right path to achieve that cohesive look,” Jenny says. “For most people, color is a natural starting point to assess different exterior accents.” The Mastic® Home Design Visualizer™ gives homeowners free rein to see how different styles of manufactured stone and thin brick complement the vinyl siding of their choice. You can see for yourself how Ply Gem stone and thin brick add texture and a focal point to your exterior. For those seeking inspiration, the Jenny Marrs Collection within the Home Design Visualizer features six distinct palettes, each harnessing a distinct color theme. Let’s explore a few examples. Black and Granite Modern homeowners who gravitate toward darker neutrals: This palette was made for you. The solid black trim, shutters and door effortlessly tie together a multitude of grey tones, while hand split shake vinyl siding accents provide a rustic touch. Get the look: Mastic® Board + Batten Designer Series™ – White Canyon Ledge – Niagara Cedar Discovery® Hand Split Shake Vinyl Siding – Deep Granite Alpine and Sage The brightest of the bunch, this palette will make a craftsman home shine. White trim harnesses a graceful transition between shades of green that provide contrast to earth-toned stone. Get the look: Structure® Home Insulation System™ Vinyl Siding – Sage Cedar Discovery Hand Split Shake Vinyl Siding – Alpine Forest Shadow Ledgestone – Autumn Everest and Rock Harbor Blues and greys are the stars of this palette, making it a wonderful option for contemporary homeowners. Bright white doors and trim elevate the depth of the siding and stone. Get the look: Cedar Discovery Hand Split Shake Vinyl Siding – Rock Harbour Mastic Board + Batten Designer Series – Everest Canyon Ledge – Niagara 2. Don’t be afraid to embrace color Why not be bold (especially when it’s in style)? Despite ever-changing trends, Jenny says that bold colors, as opposed to earthy tones, have become much more widespread since the duo launched their business. “Your home should reflect your personality without additional hassle,” Jenny says. “If you love bold colors, you should be able to use them on your home’s exterior. Mastic vinyl siding not only has the designer colors but backs them up with technology to ensure they won’t fade and won’t require tons of maintenance.” These Ply Gem siding collections allow homeowners to confidently leap into color Mastic Carvedwood•44: Any remodelers on the lookout for optimal siding and rich colors? Ten of the darkest shades in this collection use exclusive SolarDefense Reflective Technology™, which protects colors from the harsh impacts from the sun and prevents warping. Board + Batten Designer Series: With 13 standard and 11 premium color options — including four with SolarDefense — this collection will have a hue for every homeowner, whether they are searching for main body cladding or an accent. Color can be used as an accent, too, and Jenny says: “If you really love a specific color, don’t feel like you have to use it everywhere. Start small by using it on shutters, the front door, mounting blocks, vents, door surrounds or mantel systems. Ply Gem’s color match technology makes it easy to find the perfect hue that coordinates with your siding, allowing you to express your personal style and create one-of-a-kind curb appeal.” 3. Start with the element you love most So, what excites you most? A color? A material? A texture? An architectural style? Whatever you fancy, start there. For Dave, starting with dry stacked stone just feels right. Regardless of style choice, stone grounds your home unlike other building materials,” Dave says. “Whether you try it as column wrap on the front porch or an accent around the garage door, it’s an investment that is worth your while. Ply Gem Stone includes 12 distinct styles, with five dry stacked stone options, representing a wide range of shapes, sizes, textures and colors for any homeowner’s aesthetic preferences Canyon Ledge: As its name suggests, this stone mimics a natural canyon with layers of rustic colors and textures. Cut straight from a worn and weathered ledge, Canyon Ledge fills any space with a feeling of natural warmth and comfort Cascade Ledge: With three classic colors, this stone is as versatile as it is contemporary. Ledgestones and cobble jumpers nestle close together to create clean lines and a detailed texture. Shadow Ledgestone: For homeowners seeking a rustic look, this is the stone for you. Warm earth tones tie together craggy stones from a Civil War fencerow across 10 organic color options. Once you have made up your mind about the element you love most, work your way out. In Dave’s case, he would pick siding colors that complement or contrast his selected dry stacked stone and build the full palette from there! Ready to mix it up? Designer and HGTV Star Jenny Marrs Knows Home Starts at the Curb

"There is never a second chance for a first impression. Mastic vinyl siding is an easy, high-quality investment with immediate and lasting impact" When remodeling or selling a home, a lot of consideration goes into the interior: Is the kitchen up to date? Is there enough natural light? But the exterior is just as important. In fact, a recent study* revealed that curb appeal can impact the valuation of a home by as much as 7%. What’s more, curb appeal is key for day-to-day home happiness. Just ask designer and HGTV star Jenny Marrs, who, along with her contractor and craftsman husband Dave Marrs, has created a business of improving house values and making them inviting. “Achieving that complete sense of welcome begins well before you walk in the front door,” says Jenny. “It starts at the curb.” We sat down with Jenny to glean some design advice for refreshing a home’s outside. Read on for a few tips, from selecting stylish siding to layering lighting. CREATE A BEAUTIFUL CANVAS WITH MASTIC VINYL SIDING Jenny likes to start with a home’s facade, a fix that’s fabulous in many ways. With Mastic vinyl siding, you can get an immediate boost in aesthetics that has lasting impact with its healthy return on investment. According to a remodeling industry report*, homeowners who renovate their homes with vinyl siding recoup 94.7% of the job cost upon resale. When it comes to the look, Jenny says selecting the right color for your home’s siding is crucial. Mastic has a wide range of timeless and on-trend colors and styles, ensuring you find the right fit for you. “Your home should reflect your personality,” says Jenny. “Mastic has an extensive portfolio of colors, so you’re going to find that perfect color to make you feel at home. And you can be assured that color is going to look as eye-catching and welcoming today and into the future.” Mastic, part of the Ply Gem brand family, uses proprietary technology to protect siding from whatever Mother Nature sends your way, including harsh UV rays that would otherwise be destructive to vibrant colors. Mastic’s industry-leading limited lifetime warranty means your curb appeal is protected for decades. And if you decide to sell your home (and cash in on that 7% valuation bump), that warranty can transfer with the house. ADD DESIGNER-QUALITY DETAIL WITH COMPLEMENTARY TRIM AND SHUTTERS Selecting trim, shutters and other accents that complement the home without clashing is key, but it can be difficult to envision the finished product. The Mastic Home Visualizer tool lets you see the final look before purchasing anything, saving time and money. Jenny recently worked with Mastic to curate a collection of exterior palettes that reflect her distinct style and feature a variety of Mastic siding and accessory options. With the Visualizer, you can browse and select these designer-driven, ready-to-use colors and products that will make your home pop. “With Mastic’s Home Visualizer tool, you can take the guesswork out of perfecting your own curb appeal,” says Jenny. “I curated a collection from their siding portfolio that is universal enough to be stunning on any style home, any time of day, but easy enough to mix and match so that combinations are still brimming with character. LIGHTING, DOORS, AND UNIQUE TOUCHES ADD CHARACTER AND WARMTH Jenny adds that details, such as lighting, doors, and vintage touches – including original doorbells – can boost curb appeal. “Layered lighting is always helpful,” says Jenny. “Exterior wall sconces or pendants, recessed lighting on a front porch, a porch ceiling fan, and landscaping lighting can all add beauty and function to your home’s exterior.” When adding these details to a house or porch, you should consider the details that help the accessories blend seamlessly into the structure. Ply Gem’s mounting blocks – which provide a smooth, stable surface for installing accessories – have true color match technology to ensure exterior lighting seamlessly integrates with Mastic’s collections of vinyl siding. This small touch makes certain accessories complement, rather than detract from, the design. FRONT DOORS ARE ANOTHER WAY TO ADD CURB APPEAL, SAYS JENNY. “A wooden front door adds warmth, while a painted front door can add contrast to the color of the exterior siding,” says Jenny. “To save money on a new front door, I like to use a fiberglass option and paint it with a pop of color for instant charm.” Because Ply Gem shutters and accents are finished with Sherwin-Williams premium colors and coatings, they can easily be matched or contrasted with other exterior colors and finishes. And, Jenny says, any detail that makes your home stand out and tells a story helps with curb appeal, whether that’s a vintage doorbell or mail slot or even antique-style house numbers. How you feel when you look at your home impacts how you live in it. Luckily, you don’t have to be a designer to create a beautiful home exterior. “There is never a second chance for a first impression,” says Jenny. “Mastic vinyl siding is an easy, high-quality investment with immediate and lasting impact.” *Source: Zonda 2023 Cost vs. Value Report Interested in Mastic's partnership with HGTV star Jenny Marrs or want to check out her Collection of Mastic Palettes? HGTV Stars Dave and Jenny Marrs Are Growing a Greener Future with Help from Mastic®

"For us, it’s not just about the here and now — it’s about building and remodeling homes that will stand the test of time and help leave a positive impact on future generations" For home renovators and HGTV stars Dave and Jenny Marrs, sustainability is more than a buzzword; it’s a way of life. From their own family garden where they compost soil and harvest seasonal vegetables to their community-focused project, The Berry Farm, Dave and Jenny practice what they preach. They carry this ethos into their renovation projects by using sustainable building products, including Mastic® vinyl siding and accessories, to create a greener future. A Smaller Carbon Footprint From Manufacturing to Installation According to the Vinyl Siding Institute, vinyl siding is more efficient and has 40% less impact on global warming than fiber cement and 83% less impact on the environment than brick and mortar.(1) Vinyl Siding is a Sustainable Building Material The manufacturing of vinyl siding is designed with sustainability in mind. It requires minimal raw materials to manufacture, which reduces resource extraction and contributes less to deforestation and resource depletion compared to materials like wood or fiber cement. Its lightweight construction means fewer resources are needed for transportation and installation, reducing the overall carbon footprint of the product. Vinyl Siding Produces Less Waste Vinyl siding also produces less waste during on-site installation compared to wood, brick and mortar, or fiber cement. And because vinyl siding is recyclable, any scrap left over can be given new life. Mastic siding participates in the Vinyl Siding Institute’s recycling program to use scrap vinyl from house demolitions as source material in new vinyl siding. In 2022, this cooperative, along with other building exterior manufacturers, generated more than 40 tons of recycled vinyl scrap, keeping it out of landfills and reducing the need for new plastic raw materials to manufacture new vinyl siding. Vinyl Siding is More Durable The durability of vinyl siding reduces the need for frequent maintenance, meaning fewer resources are needed to keep the siding in good condition. For instance, unlike traditional wood siding, vinyl siding doesn’t require yearly painting to keep up its appearance. This results in fewer volatile organic compounds released into the environment, helping to reduce air pollution. And without the extra maintenance, homeowners can see savings add up year after year, making it not only an environmentally sustainable choice but also an economical one. “For us, it’s not just about the here and now — it’s about building and remodeling homes that will stand the test of time and help leave a positive impact on future generations,” said Jenny, the creative backbone of the duo. Dave echoes the sentiment. “We want to think bigger than the job site and consider what happens after the build is over,” he said. “Can the scrap from our remodel be recycled so it stays out of the landfill? Are we helping the environment by using products that can deliver a lifetime of energy efficiency? With Mastic vinyl siding, the answer is yes.” Mastic Insulated Vinyl Siding Improves Energy Efficiency Insulated vinyl siding, such as the Mastic Structure® Home Insulation System™ Siding that Dave and Jenny have used on remodels, enhances energy efficiency in homes. The high-performance foam backing wraps a home in a continuous blanket of insulation, reducing energy consumption and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. “Jenny and I have installed Mastic Structure® vinyl siding on a few remodel projects, and not only is it easy to install but also the quality, low maintenance, energy savings and curb appeal it brings to homeowners is unparalleled,” says Dave. An Easy Choice for Positive Environmental Impact Dave and Jenny Marrs’ choice of Mastic vinyl siding for their home remodels is a testament to their commitment to sustainable living and design. The reduced environmental impact, durability, energy efficiency and low maintenance of vinyl siding make it a long-lasting, sustainable and affordable alternative to other exterior cladding materials. As homeowners themselves, the Marrs family sets a positive example by choosing materials that benefit not only their home and the homes they build and remodel but also the planet, leaving a legacy for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. “Jenny and I are advocates for sustainability, but we realize the idea of sustainable living can be overwhelming,” Dave said. “Making one choice at a time, no matter how big or small, makes a positive impact on our environment.” 1 “Vinyl Siding: Reducing Our Carbon Footprint,” Vinyl Siding Institute, accessed October 31, 2023.

HGTV Stars Dave and Jenny Marrs Breathe Fresh Life into Lakeside Home with Mastic®

"We’re using polypropylene siding that gives the look of shake, but it will last forever. It’s going to be pretty." When new grandmother Wittney Jones asked remodelers Dave and Jenny Marrs to renovate her newly purchased lakeside home, the stars of HGTV’s Fixer to Fabulous immediately knew they needed to create a space that would let Wittney spend as much time as possible with her growing family. “The key to this renovation is to set Wittney up so she can enjoy this place and not have to worry about managing upkeep all the time,” said Jenny. Dave agreed, saying, “We want Wittney’s house to be something that she doesn’t have to mess with.” Dave and Jenny turned to Mastic® to help bring the home back to life with a fresh exterior that will maintain its charm and integrity for decades to come. The Challenge Situated on a scenic lake in Rogers, Arkansas, this 2,494-square-foot house is the start of a new family adventure. Built in 1990, the home’s exterior showed the wear and tear that comes from three decades in a wooded area; the siding was dingy and poorly painted. A misoriented staircase and front yard that was more dirt than grass added to the bedraggled look and detracted from curb appeal. “We want to make this home more welcoming and warm,” says Jenny, designer and partner with her husband in Marrs Developing, which renovates and restores old homes in northwest Arkansas. “The exterior of the house really sets the tone for daily living, so a new entry, fresh landscaping and refreshed siding were at the top of our list,” Jenny said. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of an updated exterior, Dave and Jenny wanted to reduce Wittney’s future maintenance responsibilities to allow the mother of three boys and new grandmother of one to enjoy family time. The Solution “Mastic was an easy choice for the siding because of the realistic textures that give it a real wood look but low maintenance, so Wittney can enjoy every minute of lakeside living,” Jenny said. “Plus, the Mastic color palette gave us the flexibility to choose the perfect shade for the look we were trying to create.” To revamp the exterior, Jenny handpicked Mastic Cedar Discovery Hand-Split Shake in Scottish Thistle. The pale gray with hints of green ties into the natural surroundings while brightening the façade. The rustic look of the hand-split shake adds warmth to the updated style through rich, realistic texture and deep random grooves. “Instead of painting the existing wood siding, we’re using polypropylene shake siding that gives the look of shake, but it will last forever,” she explained. As a complement to the siding, Jenny selected Ply Gem trim in white for an on-trend palette. This combination, as well as others curated by Jenny, are available on the Mastic Home Visualizer, meaning anyone can quickly and easily visualize their home transformation. “We wanted the home to feel like a cozy cottage,” Jenny said. “We added the white trim to make it really clean and make it pop.” When it came time for the installation, Dave was ready. “I love that Jenny chose Mastic hand-split shake for this renovation, and here’s why: It looks like real wood, it’s easy to install, and, when you’re working in a natural landscape like this lakeside setting, you want to use products that are good for the environment. It just feels good,” he said. “Mastic is a great choice for any home, but especially this one,” says Dave, a general contractor and craftsman. “It really gives that authentic look Jenny was looking for in this design. The color stays forever – they’ll never have to re-stain or paint. And, this stuff is strong and durable.” “Upkeep of the home’s new exterior won’t be a worry for Wittney,” Dave said. “With this particular siding, you never have to touch it. You just come here and you enjoy your family.” Mastic Cedar Discovery Shake & Shingle siding is easy to maintain. A few rainy days are all that’s typically needed to keep siding and accessories clean; during dry spells, clear water from a garden hose will take care of moderate dust and dirt. And with Mastic’s 50-year V.I.P. Limited Lifetime Warranty, Wittney will be able to enjoy her home – and views – without worrying about wear or rot associated with many other siding choices, such as wood. “We always want to create welcoming spaces that invite families to gather together,” Jenny said. With the combination of Mastic’s timeless appeal and ease-of-care, Dave and Jenny are assured this lakeside renovation will last for generations. “This house is for Wittney, but it’s also for her kids and grandkids,” Dave added. “You can see her building a life here with her family. It’s awesome.” Want to learn more about Mastic's partnership with HGTV stars Dave and Jenny Marrs? Tips for Selecting Vinyl Siding for Your Home with Dave Marrs

Whether you’re updating your current home’s exterior or devising plans for a new build, choosing the perfect siding can be a daunting decision. There are several important factors to consider throughout your selection process, including the right material technology for your climate, personal color preference, and a unique style that you’ll love for years to come. If you’re looking for a long-lasting solution, vinyl siding is a great option that’s becoming increasingly more popular among homeowners — and with good reason. It offers the same curb appeal as wood siding but with unique color, durability, and performance capabilities that won’t chip, peel or fade over time. With the Mastic® brand, we built off of the best features of traditional vinyl siding to create a more premium product that holds its color overtime, stands up against extreme weather, and requires little to no maintenance - saving homeowners time and money. It’s reliable and resilient, which is why builder, general contractor and HGTV star Dave Marrs trusts Mastic for his projects. “As both a contractor and a homeowner, I want to have a beautiful home without having to constantly maintain it,” says Dave. “With Mastic vinyl siding, there are really just two steps: install and enjoy.” Interested in installing Mastic vinyl siding on your home’s exterior? Read on for Dave’s top tips for siding selection. Choosing The Perfect Color When selecting the right siding colors for your home, it all comes down to personal preference. While trends may come and go, Dave emphasizes the importance of choosing a palette you’ll love for years to come. “My wife Jenny always says you have to live in and love your home, so make it something you enjoy.” Mastic vinyl siding collections are available in array of different colors that complement anyone’s design preferences — from crisp whites and eye-catching pastels to nature-inspired hues.  When you’re ready to explore the options, Dave and his wife Jenny Marrs, designer and co-host of HGTV’s Fixer to Fabulous, recommend using the Mastic Home Design Visualizer tool to eliminate the guesswork. All you have to do is snap a photo of your home — then you’re ready to explore the vast siding and accessory combinations to bring your project to life. If selecting your own color combination feels intimidating, you can choose from one of Jenny’s exclusively designed Mastic Home Design Visualizer palettes featuring handpicked colors and styles for each element of your home’s exterior. “Jenny and I have found that greens, blues and whites are trending, but we also consider them to be timeless,” Dave shared. EXPLORE THE PALETTES HERE In addition to the variety of color offerings, Mastic vinyl siding collections are a great siding choice thanks to its unique color-match technology that allows homeowners to match different exterior products throughout the home. From trim, fascia, and soffits to siding and shutters, the color remains consistent across materials and product types for a completely cohesive design. Before making a final decision, homeowners should consider the weather and fade resistant properties of their siding color choices. Dave trusts Mastic because of its leading color technology that provides protection from harsh UV rays. So, no matter where you live, you can rest assured knowing your siding color will stay as vibrant as the day it was installed. Selecting a Siding Style That Works For Your Home Just as important as color selection is the style of siding itself. When it comes to choosing the perfect style for your home, Dave recommends Mastic thanks to the variety of siding designs available. “One of the many reasons why I suggest Mastic to homeowners is because I know it offers something for every taste,” says Dave. From traditional design to more contemporary aesthetics, Mastic offers the perfect cladding to complement your aesthetic vision. Lap Siding For a more classic look, horizontal lap siding is a tried and true choice that still offers an abundance of design flexibility. With over 10 lap siding collections available, you can choose from a wide range of colors, widths, and textures to create a beautiful exterior design that’s unique to your taste. Lap siding also features an array of technical benefits such as quick, easy installation and a watertight design. Because of the overlapping horizontal board placement, installation is a breeze compared to other types of siding, allowing homeowners to save time and money on their project. Additionally, the board placement helps shed water to protect walls from moisture damage. Vertical Siding Also known as board and batten siding, vertical siding creates a contemporary feel that lends home’s a dramatic sense of height - even when used as an accent wall.  Vertical siding is especially prominent in modern farmhouse-style homes. Dave regularly works with the Board+Batten Designer Series™ for a striking vertical siding option. Its 7” width and authentic woodgrain appearance highlights the home’s best architectural features, while advanced engineering ensures superior impact resistance and outstanding durability in all weather conditions. The Board+Batten Designer Series is available in 29 colors ranging from traditional pastels and earth tones to darker contemporary colors. For the deepest, darkest hues, SolarDefense Reflective Technology™ is available to keep your siding vibrant thanks to tough UV-stable polymer that resists chemical breakdown and reflects damaging rays. Shake & Shingle For hundreds of years, shake and shingle has been a popular exterior style for east coast American homes. Its endearing texture adds character to smaller homes and a distinctive architectural element to larger ones. When building dormers, gables or other peak areas, Dave chooses Mastic Cedar Discovery™ for the charming look of hand-split shake and naturally weathered cedar shingle. With shake and shingle vinyl siding, you can enjoy a distinctive cedar appearance without the upkeep of traditional wood. There is no painting, staining, or patching required, saving homeowners up to $6,000 every 4 years in repainting costs. EVERPLANK™ If you’re looking for a luxurious alternative to wood siding, the new EVERPLANK vinyl siding collection from Mastic is the perfect choice for homeowners looking to elevate their exterior. “EverPlank features the time-tested look of real wood paired with a nice clean profile and no standard overlap," shares Dave. “Plus, it features the strength and durability of vinyl siding so you know it’s going to give you a look that lasts a lifetime.” Available in 12 luxurious, timeless colors, EVERPLANK’s 6” plank style construction features the realistic look and feel of true wood grain and eliminates unsightly nails for a clean, high-end look.  Its secure interlocking system withstands strong winds and reduces gaps, and its water-resistant properties resists warping and rotting – backed by a lifetime warranty to guarantee beauty and performance of the life of the product. The Right Material Technology for your Environment Last but not least, before making a final decision on your vinyl siding selection, Dave encourages homeowners to consider the unique performance capabilities that your home could benefit from. While all Mastic vinyl sidings are low maintenance and hold up against natural weathering, Mastic also offers premier material technology to ensure your siding maintains its performance and appearance no matter your location or climate. Western Extreme™ For those living out West, Dave recommends Mastic Western Extreme to protect your home’s exterior from extreme elements. "I grew up in Colorado where we had high elevations and temperatures that could shift from 75 degrees one day to a blizzard the next,” says Dave. “With most standard siding options, the high elevation, UV and temperature swings can cause warping and fading of the siding. With Mastic’s Western Extreme siding, you have added protection from these extreme elements. It’s a huge bonus to protect your biggest investment.” Specifically engineered to take on the most complex weather systems, Western Extreme features next-generation technology that protects your home from the effects of infrared light, low humidity and rapid temperature changes found in Western climates. Western Extreme is made from extra-thick vinyl panels to resist warping from fast temperature changes. Additionally, it can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 mph and features InfraBlock Technology® to keep even the darkest colors from fading. SolarDefense Reflective Technology™ For the deepest, darkest exterior colors, Dave suggests selecting a collection with SolarDefense Reflective Technology to ensure fade resistance. “Regardless of where you live, this technology acts as a permanent sunscreen to help keep your rich, deep colors vibrant for years to come.” Mastic’s SolarDefense Reflective Technology features three active layers to protect your home: 1. A top layer that disperses heat and helps resist fading by allowing light energy to flow both ways. 2. A middle layer that features a cooling compound that scatters light, reflecting heat away to keep panels cooler. 3. The base layer stands up to heat, preventing distortion. Structure® Home Insulation System™ Siding For those looking for enhanced insulation protection in cold winters and warm summers, Structure® Home Insulation System™ Siding features an exclusive combination of vinyl siding technologies and high-performance foam that wraps your home in a continuous blanket of insulation. Structure’s high insulating power helps to lower energy bills, shrink your carbon footprint, and reduces noise. The expanded polystyrene foam insulation and rigid substrate increases the R-value of exterior walls, helping save energy year-round. Plus, it’s 300% more impact resistant than standard vinyl. “For many, the home is the biggest investment you make in a lifetime. Therefore, it’s important to provide it with the best protection possible,” says Dave. Worried about longevity? Mastic proudly stands behind all product lines, with a No Fade, No Distortion Promise.
