Ply Gem associates help families across North America
Home for Good Kick Off
Since our kick off in May, associates across the company have stepped up to coordinate local volunteer opportunities with their nearby Habitat for Humanity affiliate – working together to achieve our goal of helping to build 300 homes in 2016 for families in need of safe and affordable housing.
Home Builders Blitz Week
The first week of June each year, home builders (and subcontractors) from across the U.S. donate their time and skills to build homes during the Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz. Ply Gem was the presenting sponsor for this year’s event which took place June 6-10, in 31 states – marking the start of Ply Gem’s Home for Good project, as we contributed enough windows and siding to help finish nearly half of the 250 homes that were built.
The Blitz week began in Raleigh, NC, on Monday, June 6, as Ply Gem Chairman and CEO, Gary E. Robinette, joined in a wall raising ceremony with other project partners – including the CEO of Habitat for Humanity International builders – as they set out to build four homes. The next day in Cedar Rapids, IA, Chris Brown, senior vice president of sales for the Siding team, represented Ply Gem at the dedication of two more homes.
Then it was on to Nashville for that city’s busiest week of the year, where Ply Gem and the Home for Good project were well represented throughout the Country Music Association’s annual music festival. Outside, the event’s information booths were built with Ply Gem fence and railing, while inside at the Fan Fair, a Ply Gem porch functioned as the ideal backdrop for fans to meet and greet their favorite artists from Universal Music Group, Nashville.
Meanwhile on Wednesday and Thursday, Ply Gem hosted a panel build at the NASH Country Radio campus downtown. During these two days, Ply Gem leaders, Alan Jackson’s management team and record label (Universal Music Group Nashville) along with NASH Country radio staff framed all of the interior and exterior walls for a future Habitat home. By the end of Thursday, the walls were completed – ready to be moved to a build site where they will become a home for a family this fall.
While part of the Ply Gem team worked at the panel build, others were 30 minutes outside of town in LaVergne, TN installing insulation, hanging siding, painting and landscaping in order to finish two homes in preparation for the upcoming home dedication.
Friday morning marked the finale of the week-long Builders Blitz as a large crowd gathered in LaVergne for the Hendricks family home dedication. Along with Ply Gem, dozens of community leaders, family members, media outlets and the Home for Good project ambassador, Alan Jackson, were on hand to celebrate. Alan and Gary each played a key role in the home dedication ceremony – both sharing kind words and personal congratulations to Keosha, the new homeowner.
