Metal and Rainware, Build Smart
Choosing gutters for a new home or replacing the gutters on your current home can be a daunting task. The first question many homeowners ask when beginning a project this large is “what is this going to cost me?” The good news is gutter prices vary so you can find a gutter material for every budget. This guide will help walk you through the cost of gutters, from your material options to installation.
As you learned in our previous blog outlining popular gutter materials, the average cost of gutters nationally is $543-$1332.
However, the amount you will spend on new gutters is largely impacted by the type of gutter you choose. According to Home Advisor, there are four major types of gutters you can choose from.
Vinyl gutters are the least expensive, costing as little as $4 per piece. Even the most expensive vinyl gutters rarely cost more than $8 per piece.
Aluminum gutters range from $6 per piece to $12 per piece on average.
Steel gutters are step up from vinyl or aluminum, starting at $11 per piece but can cost $33 or more.
Copper gutters are the highest quality gutters on the market. These gutters cost at least $40 per piece but typically cost around $100 per piece.
Another factor that affects the cost of your gutters is the type of gutter. There are two main types of gutter, sectional gutters and seamless gutter.
Sectional gutters are just how they sound – sections of gutter that are premade and cut to fit your home. They use a free-floating hanging system that allows water to drain over if the downspout is clogged.
Seamless gutters are custom fit to your home and extruded in one piece. This helps reduce leaks, but you are going to pay a little more than you would for sectional gutters. Seamless gutters can cost you anywhere from $1000-$5,000 depending on the gutter material and square feet of your roof.
For an experienced contractor to replace a gutter and downspout section measuring 50 feet you can expect to pay about $500. While this estimate does include materials, many factors can affect the cost such as your roof pitch and the cost of living in your area. Always ask what is included in the estimate you receive from a pro so that you are not caught off guard with additional costs. We also recommend getting several installation estimates from pros before you make any decisions.
Hiring a professional to clean your gutters can cost you $100 -$200.Cleaning your own gutters can be a little tricky so it is important that you have the right tools and follow proper safety procedures. For tips and tricks check out our blog for your complete guide to clean gutters.
